About Golden Spirit Alpaca Ranch

Golden Spirit Alpaca Ranch is home to over 180 alpaca and 75 acres of grazing pasture. Founded in 2006, Golden Spirit has emerged as a leader in the region with a tailored approach to animal care and attention. Brenda Crum, owner and manager of Golden Spirit Alpaca Ranch, believes that understanding each animal’s unique personality is the primary framework of ranching at Golden Spirit.

The continued growth of the ranch is extremely valuable to the area, as it keeps a large section of local land free from development. Also, Golden Spirit fosters a healthy relationship with the community by both providing composting to residents at no charge and purchasing feed from local stores.

Interesting Alpaca Facts

Alpacas, cousins to the llama, are beautiful, intelligent animals native to the Andean Mountain range of South America, particularly Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. The United States first commercially imported alpacas in 1984. Because of its soft texture, alpaca fiber is sometimes compared to cashmere. Alpaca is just as warm as wool yet it is one-third the weight.

Containing no lanolin, alpaca fiber is also naturally hypoallergenic. Most people who are sensitive to wool find that they can wear alpaca without the itching or irritation they feel from wool because alpaca fiber is smooth.
