Friday January 29th or 3 Day Clinic Jan 29-Jan 31
Instructor: Deb Yeagle, Ohio
When you first saw alpaca and asked questions did you understand anything people were saying about the fleece? When you decided to have babies did you understand anything people told you about your breeding choices? When you decided to use the fiber, did you have a clue what to do with each grade – or even what grade it was? Don’t own alpaca yet but w
ondering how to select for your wants and desires? Then this the opportunity you won’t want to miss.
Your instructor – Deb Yeagle has been in the business longer than AOA has existed, owns alpaca and llama and has judged nationally at various types and levels of shows. Started in the sheep business before unique fiber evolved in the US! A chance to learn from a retired educator who can teach you about fiber, conformation, performance, fiber arts and maybe even this business is a unique opportunity. She’s been there when the imports started coming in and has seen the industry evolution – and yes !! she knows the “whos who” in our industry. At a time when people are trying to understand this business don’t miss learning from someone who’s been there, done that! Right in your back yard — Florida!
This 3 day clinic is planned for Judges who “want to be” but what’s the best part? The first day of teaching for judges is also great information for alpaca owners who want to answer those tough questions. It’s a Breeders Clinic !
Yes ! you can take only one day of the clinic for $75.00 ! OR you can learn like the judges learn through a 3 day clinic ! AAAAAHHH ! “But I don’t want to ”do” shows” ! “OH but I know people who have taught me”. In this industry you can never learn enough and this is just one more avenue. Do you know that many, many of the big breeders in the alpaca industry didn’t become judges but have taken the judges clinic? That’s how they learned and you can learn too !!!!
The breeders’ clinic will be a ‘hands-on’ day to help you, as the breeder, be able to decide the finer points to look for in your alpaca breeding herd.
Bring a fleece if you like to skirt and evaluate or send Deb an email to help her compile material for you so you can have individualized learning.

Golden Spirit Alpaca Ranch is home to over 180 alpaca and 75 acres of grazing pasture. Founded in 2006, Golden Spirit has emerged as a leader in the region with a tailored approach to animal care and attention. Brenda Crum, owner and manager of Golden Spirit Alpaca Ranch, believes that understanding each animal’s unique personality is the primary framework of ranching at Golden Spirit.
The continued growth of the ranch is extremely valuable to the area, as it keeps a large section of local land free from development. Also, Golden Spirit fosters a healthy relationship with the community by both providing composting to residents at no charge and purchasing feed from local stores.
Alpacas, cousins to the llama, are beautiful, intelligent animals native to the Andean Mountain range of South America, particularly Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. The United States first commercially imported alpacas in 1984. Because of its soft texture, alpaca fiber is sometimes compared to cashmere. Alpaca is just as warm as wool yet it is one-third the weight.
Containing no lanolin, alpaca fiber is also naturally hypoallergenic. Most people who are sensitive to wool find that they can wear alpaca without the itching or irritation they feel from wool because alpaca fiber is smooth.
